This visit offered a significant platform to introduce a project that is set to drive innovation and growth within the sector. The Semi-Specialized Terminal for Container and Cargo Project, awarded through a competitive public tender, is designed to enhance the port’s capacity. The Terminal will span 22 hectares and will feature 550 linear meters of quay with a 15-meter draft, two berths, a container yard with a static capacity of 13,000 TEUs, and dynamic handling capacity of over 500,000 TEUs. Additional features include refrigerated container zones, hazardous cargo facilities, an 8,000 m² warehouse2, a multimodal yard with 1,970 meters of rail spur, and a wastewater treatment plant, among others.

The first stage of operations is slated to begin operations in April 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in foreign trade for the region. In addition to serving as a pivotal hub for maritime commerce, the Terminal is expected to generate approximately 500 permanent direct jobs and over 1,200 indirect jobs.

This ambitious project is financed through a syndicated loan amounting to 4.15 billion pesos, with participation from several prominent Mexican financial institutions, including BanBajío (acting as the lead bank), Banorte, Multiva, Bancomext, Bx+, and Monex, alongside support from FIRA. This makes it one of the most significant construction initiatives in the state in recent years, poised to drive both the economic and social development of the region, while creating new opportunities for the logistics sector and future generations of professionals.
